Hi - you are in luck!  Head down New England Highway towards Stanthorpe.  From there to Glen Innes there is a LOT of stuff.  So search those using the search function here and I'm sure people will post more!

From my experience quartz crystals are always the easiest with kids.  I've got kids 7 & 5.  Some of the stuff is in creeks (severn river from memory) so they may get less bored if you make it a bit of a picnic and they can just have some fun in their swimmers at the same time.

I'll also be curious what other people suggest up your way as I'll keep it in mind for myself too.

Welcome Crush15... You could always have a look at the Queensland Fossicking Guide for some ideas on locations and the rules of Do's and Don'ts..... Oh and if you are Fossicking in Qld, you must have a fossicking licence too. ... but not in NSW except in State Forests where you need their Special Fossickers Licence.... ::)
Stanthorpe is Verrry hit and miss... if you can tolerate the kids for a bit longer, you have the Fossickers Triangle around the New England area.......Glen Innes- Inverell-Torrington Districts... :D

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

FYI the whole area that way is beautiful mountain, granite country so just great for a trip anyway!  Lots for the kids to explore and see in terms of different country, wildlife, the rivers / streams are usually really nice because of the granite and being not very populated in general.  Well worth a trip.
