I would only knurl fairly soft laps,  I would not knurl copper.Just got home, mine are 1mm pitch. I have both 20 and 28mm OD ones and both work, though the 20(might be called 19mm)19mm might be better. I notice on ebay you can buy 10 wheels for about $22 + gst, just need to put handles on them.

Or one ready to go  https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Single-Steel-Wheel-Straight-Linear-Knurl-Knurling-Roller-Tool-Set-1mm-Pitch/254414706313?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item3b3c4c5689:g:iKUAAOSwT5RdxRTx&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACYBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%252Fn%252BzU5L90Z278x5ickkrDx%252B2NLp21dg6hHbHAkGMVXflXueDRwDp2NBI9pwkrZdEHThJlVx%252FhoAvw%252BRlKsZPFIFMRTjHzAT9FL4WMUaPITwl1RXYgGkyGeKqhnllxzFEd3zRR%252Bj0mv00nmZQIi6RNcc6eEvgmgoQQtQpagJxR6R5oBXAXgzjhwF907YqWW2SzUeN96vtOAiTEEmY%252Bdmnu6JzYyz9VWllQixSA7D3xSZHfpQaYKxEFinUZfogn74pRiGsMDiXFY38NvCNSIJOw8FPGUXhBrAsfG2IMZUZs7fD1r9TaWCiaqP%252FY%252BW5UqBAnuMs9wDgD%252FEInxeo1HYNFrDif4LrBQRpH71bjTPg3vsg0Z%252BldWXMtQBYCwFeTd3wimTJfFrxjZOdJkS%252FFq0vlGp1P%252BpqYcQu3ZRR8CJQXuDd6JnJgnY0EQdXJpbaFLnxLj%252BP9dl4XIB4AWOgzWrXFg%252FvU9hkTZLKXTaZey7FrHQuoIKDVENaT1l7Q1TvXx6UqW5Nf1gN0nzWZEwxDJ2Ug13NeiD08SOMwGTAO5AKtsJ%252Fqlh1CIbBWQYa181NnlkbyqNF2GgWU%252Fcmgac5zNol3XvHzsTMH%252FGjmQFVTWTKbhY%252FRvXBblxjLG8RBsX2FGjk%252FjyH%252FNwIu4IChnmI1nQXbUvLJ5Xy%252Fb93SiwbtcIgG5JUnoFLzkmo3gg44HT%252Beht80m0RdV1DKjGustjmeoS3xUhvvmss8N8RoOK9yL3LguPNlON%252FvGW9KhFXgf%252BVvQkuQBewy6dqLwjodZOMdma%7Ccksum%3A254414706313f9a5ebb1b74b48419064290f9e3789d0%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524&frcectupt=true

I use the tool buy letting it run on the lap surface with minimal downward pressure.

Working over all of the lap? or just part of?

With the lap turning I let the knurling wheel turn on the lap surface moving it in/out lightly running on the lap surface. From the center to the edge a few times. You might want to play with rpm as you do it.

My knurler is home made, welded a yoke onto a long bar and fitted a coarse (1mm) left hand knurling wheel. Once I've knurled the lap, I dress off on 400 grit and do a primary rub on some old quartz then clean and re-apply the 50k.

The only material I've found that has problems with the knurled lap is Honey Opal, most facets are fine but there are almost always one of two which break up, invariably the last ones, not sure why, probably the opal structure, weird but damn frustrating.

Never tried knurling my Batt laps. Got a knurling tool for my lathe but never thought of using it on my laps. Resurfaced my 3000 grit Batt a couple of times because it dished after a while. Do score my Lucite lap with a broken hacksaw blade every couple of hours.

Got the diamond polish on Quartz working. Going from a worn 1200 bonded, 14k Batt, 60k Batt. Took a while for the 14k Batt to settle down, think it was clumping up a bit and getting into the grooves. So now the 14k produces an excellent polish and the 60k is just a wipe over to get the tiny ruts out.

Got the 3k to 14k to 60k working with Quartz all on three different Batt laps. I use baby oil with diamond powder, sprinkling the diamond on the lap with a couple of drops of oil and rubbing it in. Found the 14k will need to be pre-mixed and go on as a slurry, as it's getting into the lap grooves as clumps and scratching the facet. Soften up after a while and stop scratching.
Also experimented in going from Cerium on Lucite to 60k on a Batt to tidy up minor scratches and meet points. That worked really well, but you have to know exactly where the facets are because the facet is already polished. There is no change in the surface finish to show you whether your to high, low, left or right.
