Today I bought
« on: December 31, 2023, 11:41:45 PM »
Today I’ve picked up this well looked after machine. Must of put it in a wrong section before..

Looking forward learning the ropes after I give it a good clean.

Came with some nice polishing laps

Got a good reputation those Halls machines, shouldn't have a problem knocking out a few good stones right from the start. Is that bottom left lap in the photo a BATT lap? A BATT lap is a tin alloy lap and used for pre-polish or polishing with diamond.

Can’t tell if it’s Batt, they are old

Well done in acquiring this Halls model faceting machine. From where did you buy it and how much? PM me if you don't wish to give a public answer. We have an identical one at our club and its the only one I like using. It has great precision if its taken care of.  I particularly like that it has the micro-adjustment for angle setting. I'm jealous!  Droo ;) ;D

Cheers

Hi Milachi, I bought it from an older retired gentleman. I have seen it advertised in various places. One of them was eBay which game me an option to make an offer. If I was to buy the polishing laps individually new I got the machine cheaper than the Chinese version I’ve been tinkering with. ($2250) I couldn’t let it go even though I’ve paid for postage- I went to pick it up in person. So yes it was another unexpected bargain.

Hopefully you didn't have to travel far. Even with the rarity of such rarities come up ; postage or driving long distances have to be considered in cost?

Enjoy many hours of cutting dazzling gems!!!  8)

Ah yes, thank you. Postage was compensated with some gems cutting books and rough emerald hex crystals 😊 which I didn’t expect. I’m actually glad it wasn’t posted based on my previous experience with deliveries…
