Gearloose's theory of polishing
« on: August 07, 2010, 07:53:58 AM »
Came across this video on YouTube this morning and thought it may be of interest - not only for the good info contained inside but we can now put a face to the name  :D

Franklin Faceter's Frolic Jon Rolfe Pt I

There are 3 parts to this presentation from the Franklin Faceters Frolic - there are also a number of other videos which will be very relevant and interesting.  Posted by gsellis.

Discovered it when checking the Jim Perkins Yahoo Group.

ok - will have to wait until tomorrow though because we have gone WAAAYY over on our monthly download limit due to a little computer problem last week.  We roll over tomorrow so can go back to normal downloading then.

cheers
Leah

FYI - the new version of Avast antivirus doesnt always play nice.  Slowed our connection to a crawl last week and by the time I worked it out, scanned for spyware, uninstalled and then reinstalled a different AV program on 2 computers, used up a quarter of our limit in 1 day - have been in the red zone since.

No - we're under control.  AFL and Aussie Sapphire are backed up separately and hosted on a server.

Just upgraded our AV and the new fancy-dancy Avast "web shields" seemed to work too efficiently in that they blocked just about ALL of our internet browsing.  Changed to a different AV and all is well.  But wasted a fair amount of time scanning for spyware and the like thinking that might have been the problem.

I was a bit grumpy last Friday but just as I was just about to say we are back to normal, I see that our satellite has just fallen over  >:(    (3 dropouts in the last 5 minutes and wishing for ADSL!!!)

cheers

I'm glad that I took the time to read this, I have AVG professional, I might now change to a simpler version. Almost at the point of hurling the PC out of the window. Thanks for the info Folks.

Hopefully by the morning I will see the video ;D Dial Up geesh. From what I have watched it is really interesting and for GL to be addressing polishing is even better, so I will be leaving the net on tonight, as the peepers are getting sleepy.

Plus tomorrow is a new week thank goodness, and hopefully a more productive one.

I hope you all can follow the Septic Accent.

I had no sleep the night before..My wife injured herself at the first airport, and had to finish the trip in a wheelchair.
She will probably have to have orthopedic surgery soon.  But she gamely went though the trip and forced a good time, though she was in a lot of pain.
In one of the segments my cellphone rang.  It was her, calling from a local emergency room.

So maybe next year I will do a better job, and look a bit prettier.

Enjoy! Glad I was able to get through it.

For those with dial-ups or other problems, Roy Kersey will be producing DVDs of all the talks.

Hi GL,

Sorry to hear about Mrs Gearloose, I hope she is doing better now, it would have been a worry for you.

I am glad I persisted in loading it overnight as I found it very informative. About the native cutters, I was like wow that is so true, you rarely see a bad polish on those stones. It's something I never really thought about before, so we really must take a few minutes to admire that in the cutters.

I also got a lot out of, why NOT to use a very course grit to grind down a large stone well unless of course you want to just give it a shape to throw in a fish tank for their pleasure.

I have to say as a dial up user, it would be great to see the talks on DVD, so if you could let us all know how to get one when they are ready that would be greatly appreciated.

Take Care,
Deb :-*
