Areas around colac

Hi all
I’m new to fossicking and live near Colac in Victoria. I was wondering if anyone new of any fossicking spots in my area?

PhilK, Mt Shadwell at Mort Lake is good for Peridot, it is a scaria quarry owned by Moyne Shire, you have to apply at the Shire Office in Mortlake to go onto the property, but its only open on Saturdays to Fossicking, the foreman at the Quarry will show you where you can fossick.

Went with members of the Western Districts Lapidary Club to Mt Shadwell some 30 years ago and great specimen lava bombs were easily found. They were tapered by their movement through the air from hot to cold and, if you split them, inside was olivine sprinkled with small peridot crysals.

Makky, have they gone back to allowing you into the quarry on Friday, Saturdays and Sundays.  I was last there April 2018 and they were only allowing fossickers in there on a Saturday.

Mt leura has nice bombs if you can get in the quarry. You should do well at any of the cinder cones if you can get access.
Moonlight head used to be a good spot but I think it's national park now, it might be worth enquiring as I think I read somewhere you were still able to collect in the national park. Nice Agates and Jaspers on the beach at low tide, dangerous place though if the swell is high.
There used to be a limestone quarry near Timboon that you could pick up nice pieces of travertine and stalactites that were solid and nice honey and white banding, they cut well.
Not all that far away is Moorella at the foot of the Grampians for nice smokey quartz crystals
