Anyone notice the downgrade and outsourcing of these maps recently. Poor form on the Corps behalf.

Mushy thanks for pointing that out.

Out sourcing has removed all the flavour from the maps. 

Glad I down loaded all of them last year.
Have sent you a pm with another source of the maps I found on line.

It is crazy really about the maps as shooters in SF now have to carry a Gps and can down load detailed maps from their State forestry page showing areas they can shoot in and what is out of bounds. Maps that are provided and maintained by SF.

Cheers Jj, I'm pretty cynical about a lot of things, but this I see is another chip at our hobby. I've seen state forests turned into NPs, old logging roads taken off maps, good roads blocked off. I see it as cultural and historical vandalism by someone's idea of protecting the forests. Mountain biking seems to be the 'in' activity forestry are promoting.

Years ago while in Tumut I went to get a map for the SF near Tumbarumba that SF had made up.  You had to go to NPWS to get one as they also looked after the SF information down there. You used to be able to buy this map a year before from the news agency or information centre at Tumbarumba but heard that had stopped hence the wasted trip to NPWS.

NPWS said I was not a person of interest for the map.     Seems I had to rely on out of date very old state map. Was not impressed.

Got a photo copy of part of the map from the information centre in Tumbarumba so I could safely find my way to Parson's Gully.

Still have no idea what NPWS was so paranoid about.  I did not look like a tree climbing green logging protester.

Saw a report on DIGS couple of years ago, well the title only as it was not for public viewing, Strategic audit of the minerals found in Kosi NP. All references have now disappeared from DIGS, why?

From memory minerals in Kosciuszko area included gold, copper , tin and garnets.

I found gold and small zircons when I was camping at the Long Flat/Blue Waterholes Track junction over 40 years ago. The rest of them are still there, I guess. Interestingly, a ranger visited our camp and said it was fine for us to shoot rabbits if we wanted to. We didn't - used traps instead. Times have changed, haven't they.

Lots of mineral wealth in that area Findem. Rode mountain bike from Yaouk to Blueholes after the 04 fires. The grader doing up the fire trails had knocked the top off a quartz reef exposing some juicy galena crystals (couple of Kms SE from Blueholes)
