According to Wikipedia ...

Elements such as manganese, iron, and copper in the water/mud during the petrification process give petrified wood a variety of colour ranges.  Following is a list of contaminating elements and related colour hues:
carbon – black
cobalt – green/blue
chromium – green/blue
copper – green/blue
iron oxides – red, brown, and yellow
manganese – pink/orange
manganese oxides – blackish/yellow

I have a very nice haul this month, which includes mostly roma district Fossilised, opalised/Agatized wood, plus some nice agates & Jasper. This will keep me cutting and polishing for months  8)
The 2nd phot is without flash and better shows the colours.

Should be fixed now Jerry - for some reason, there was a glitch on viewing attachments on your profile.

However, as a general recommendation to all members, please post photos to the Gallery instead of as attachments to a message.  It is easy and there are all sorts of other benefits - more importantly, they are not subject to deletion when the attachments folder gets full if you post them in the gallery instead.

cheers
Leah

Opalised wood can also be found in Andamooka and other places with colour but not a lot of it?
