Sticky situation - removing a bell cap
« on: June 26, 2016, 04:46:55 AM »
Hi folks, I have made a few pendants in the past and use epoxy glue to secure the bell cap. I need to remove one as it must have slipped off centre whilst drying. What do most people use to dissolve the glue?

Can try putting it in a jar (glass) of acetone overnight.  Should soften the glue enough to remove.

Easiest way is to heat the glue but that wont work in this particular situation.

There is a product called Attack that dissolves glues like this - we have some but cant send in the post but you might be able to find some locally to you.

cheers

I have used acetone many times to remove unwanted epoxy. Remember to wash it afterwards with metho as acetone seems to leave a film which will dull it.

I second that. Paint stripper and 'Attack' epoxy remover use the same active ingredient - Dichlorometane (methylene chloride).
