How long is too long?
« on: May 13, 2018, 05:20:10 PM »
Hey guys, just wondering what you all do, I've been digging in a spot in Glenalva.
Havent been able to get back to my spot for about 4 weeks (left a bucket and shovel there so show I'm still digging) came back and found my bucket and shovel gone and the hole bigger (bloody thieves).

Anyway, I've taken about too sandbags worth of wash, and this weekend another 3 sandbags worth to clean and sort through but I've not been doing any good soo far. Just wonndering how long would you guys been digging in one spot before giving up and going to the next location.

if you left youre shovel in a e for a month you were asking for them to be stolen.

My understanding of the 'bucket left in a hole' agreement is for a day or two, maybe a few days at most.  I don't leave an upturned bucket with a stone on top if I can't get back there within 2 or 3 days. I would think a bucket and shovel left for a month is abandoned, not stolen.

48 hours!
After that your stuff can be declared abandoned.

Wasnt talking about the stuff i meant how long do you keep digging in one spot of not finding anything until you move locations or you just keep pushing through hoping to find something

How long is a piece of string? When fossicking, I wouldn't continue for longer than a day in one place without finding something, unless you're just removing over burden to get down the to wash. I know in Powelltown I've only spent 2-3 hours in the one spot without finding something before I moved. Maybe I'm just impatient.  It would depend on what I'm looking for as well.
Common sense isn't exactly common

First time at glenalva I had beginners luck and chanced on a nice little spot, last year I dug till I was nackered then crawled around on hands and knees speccing, did better speccing once I got my eye in than all the backbreaking digging. It rained so digging was curtailed anyway.
