Halls Mark 3
« on: April 23, 2021, 07:24:22 PM »
Hi
I have bought a secondhand Halls mark 3 and am having problems with the dop arm sliding down the shaft. I have removed the rubber seal and think there should be some ball bearings or something to hold it in the groove. Can anyone assist on what holds the arm up on the shaft
Thanks
Erik

I have the Hall Mk 3, but a different arm to what yours is. I have had it apart, up the index wheel end is a sealed ball bearing and a press fit holds the shaft on. Mine hasn't got the threaded part or the rubber ring, what holds the index wheel on? By the looks a nut? Mine has two little threaded screws. Must have been an upgrade along the line.
What does the shaft look like with the hand piece slid off? is there a groove were little ball bearings would run? That's all I can think of, so sorry can't help at this stage.

Cheers
Prooz.

Thanks Prooz, i have measured it and the hole is 3/32 so i think a ball sits in either side and the rubber o ring holds them in and they align with the groove on the shaft. It appears the dob holder doesnt go all the way snug up to the end when in place.

If in doubt ask Horst Ricker, he knows these machines better that anyone, also does beautiful quill upgrades.
