Hi Guys,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me, I want to buy a sieve shaker, preferably somewhere around Melbourne.

I'm pretty handy with my own hands but I don't have a vice to bend steel and I don't have a welder to weld it together.

So my next best option is to ask the brains trust here!

Hi Tunneler,

I already have a variant of that type of sieve but they are too bulky for what I want!

What I'm after is one of those one's that has cross bars at the top to hold your standard round sieve and the round bar from the centre that you knock into the ground then just fill with gravel and shake away!

I think I know the type you're after, I bought one some years ago from a guy in Inverell, NSW. I'm not sure how you'd go making one without a welder though, you need that to weld the cross piece that holds the sieve to the tube that slips on the shaft you knock into the ground. Mine consists of two steels bars welded in an 'X' which have been bent at 90 degrees on the ends to hold the sieve in place. Like I said, this is also welded to a tube which slips onto the top of a length of reo that's hammered into the ground. It holds it at about waist height which save bending over.

Hi Ranger Itchy,

An engineering workshop would be a good place to get your shaker made up. You'd have to take along basic specs which can be found online or modified to your requirements.

Also Innes engineering of inverell makes the ones for the smaller sieves, usually has some in stock.

Thanks Tunneler, couldn't remember who it was but that was where I got mine from. When you say the smaller sieves, the commercial aluminum ones are what he makes for. I don't know anyone that makes larger ones.

Hi Colzer,

Can you tell me where I can find the "SPEC'S" online please!

My brother tells me he has a vice I can use to cut and bend the steel!
All I need is the steel and the spec's!

I'm sure my local mechanic where I get my car service could weld it for me!

If you search under WILLOUGBY (a sieve shaker) you'll find specs. On a quick search I found this post:

Thanks Colza, but a willoughby is more elaborate than what I'm looking for. I want a shaker more simple and compact to store and transport!
