Pintrest ... concave amatrine

Here is a link to some Amatrine cut on a concave facetor.  Quite interesting to see the difference in how bi colour material behaves.

Wow.  I didn't realise inserting the link would result in the picture being displayed.

What's interesting is that the colour remained reasonably separate rather than being compltely mixed.

FlashGP.    Have you clicked on the little cross in the top righthand corner of the link?   If not, do so and you will find heaps more wonderful gems.

Click on any of the displayed pictures and you can wonder around for an hour or two, or until you drown in drool.

A great example of the benefit that can be obtained by concave faceting. How many facetors on this forum have concave faceting attachments on their facetor ?

I would like to give it a go, but I may have to wait until I get better or retire.

Having said that I think it is a way for our commercial cutters to differentiate their product fron cheap O/S imports and increase their profitability.

Currently it is very much a bespoke space.

Facetron dont actually make a concave faceting attachment but it can be done.  For example, the Polymetric OMF can be set up on a facetron base with a slightly different base slide if I remember correctly.  And I presume other types of concave facetors can work similarly.

We can look into it a bit more closely for those who want to explore this option at some point.

Not really.
This mob have been offering it for some time.

I agree its interesting and produces some incredible effects but well and truly commercialised already.

I am at a loss to even begin to see how they do this.

That just looks like a hexagon with notches cut out of the sides. You can see the rounding where cut out.  If your feeling brave you could MAYBE do it will the sides of your lap(not a good one). Do you want me to try ?  ;D

Looking at this you can even see where they have over cut and uneven.

But I'd have to cut a 7 fold one, look heaps better. If I could find a way to lock the horizontal pivot on my faceting head it would make it a lot easier. Cut in on a worn 600 and polish cut outs with 8k on copper. Or on the gemmasta turn the faceting head full pivot away from yourself seems to perhaps work to be a good stop. Should be dead easy to cut.
EDIT: Just having a look might have finally found a use for reverse (counter clockwise) lap rotation.  The facet edges to cut to will need to be aligned with index angles in the design.
Edit again:  Maybe a 7 fold wouldn't be better. I might cut one similar first but if it works could be an interesting concept for other designs.

Makky,

wouldn't you just drill a hole parralel to the lap through a 45 degree table dop and mount your stone sideways with a small index marker on the end of the  dop protruding through the table dop?  Something like a Facetron Apex Indexer.  This would make iteasier to set up subsequent cuts.

The indexer would need fine lines scribed in it to male it easier to use.  The apex indexer lines are too course for fine angle adjustment, making it tedious to use.
