Shaker box build, ideas please.
« on: March 22, 2022, 09:04:55 PM »
I am going to build a two tier shaker box for my trip. I think I want a sliding arrangement where it hits an impact stops as you slide it end to end.
Has anyone got a shaker box, I be really interested in the stand and how the sieves slide etc.

Looking at shaker boxes there look to be a few styles.
1 Slide on the stand when shaken.
2 Have a pivot and rock back and forth to shake, maybe hitting a stop.
3 Fixed to stand but pole flexes when shaken.
4 Others various designs, most not suitable to sapphire wash.
Thoughts ? pics would be great. Makes me wish I had a good look at the setup a bloke was using at Harts Range as gee he could process gravel really fast.

Cheers

I haven't found anything on google I really like. Most are single mesh size for sieving compost. There is a round one on here but no decent rectangular or square ones. I have a design in my head :) I've been working on and will try.

I'm thinking single steel pole driven into the ground, with a steel frame on top the sieve/stack goes into. The sieve stack can slide within the frame along the longest axis(maybe a slide distance of 60mm). As the sieve stack is slid it will impact on the frame, end on end.
Thinking I'll make rectangular sieves, two stack with little angle legs on the top sieve that slide over the lower sieve.
If anyone has pics I'd like to see them.

This is sort of what I want to make. But boxes the same size and some play on the longer axis so the sieve can slide then impact(Or maybe springs) on the frame.

Almost finished it. Roughly 600x400mm. 19mm pole, springs and shakes on the pole pretty well.Might make a 25mm cover/top plate. Will post another photo when I finish.Bit of a mad panic atm, lots still to do and time running out.

Looks great, very solid.

A friend of mine used a roller table as an alternative. Round metal pipe over smaller diametre round pipe that the seives are pushed back and forth over. Worked well at Harts Range.
