I use sorbelene to carry the diamond and have had no problems with it - it is a very affordable medium costs under $5.00 per litre from Woolies and the Missus gets to use the surplus as a hand crème. We're both winners!

I tried using hand cream recipies on the tub machine I was sold years ago as a faceting machine and had trouble getting a pre polish.  Ended up tipping the 3k grit into the 3k spray I had, it worked better.  But gave up on that machine as I could not get a straight girdle. 

Last year my wife gave me a real feacting machine as a birthday present.  Since then I have found the thinner the carrier for the diamond, the better.  Except pure snake oil is a little too thin so I use diamond extender as a carrier and snake oil to clean the swarf off the lap as cutting progresses.
