Just when I felt I was good enough to enter a Standard Round Brilliant with Continuous Girdle in Gemboree, AFLACCA changed the rules and I thought that the change prevented stones being entered in this section.
The rule change removed "usually" from the definition of facet on pages 44 and 47 of the current manual and I thought that a continuous girdle was a facet. After all the former definition of facet allowed for a curved surface.
I am still pondering if the change to the rules has had an unforeseen side effect, that is whether any of the judging features have changed or if the original intent was that a continuous girdle was intended to be a facet.
Happy faceting
