I can't wrap my head around the use of a target dop when first dopping the stone to keep it accurately central to the dop. It was mentioned a few times on my "Dopping with epoxy" thread. Taking a rough round preform for example, which is dopped on it's crown. How do you know the stone is central to the dop?

I remember seeing Mark/Hashnu stones using a stone aligner/holder that used multiple screws/bolts to align the stone in relation to the dop. At the time I remember thinking that's a great idea and I'll make one of those.

Frank, I think Muzza is trying to centralise the stone to reduce wastage as he's already preformed it.
Common sense isn't exactly common

Hi Frank,

Regarding the use of a target dop, I put blue tax in the centre of the target dop and use it to hold the stone in position.  Then centre the stone visually using the rings on the target dop for guidance, then lower my dop with glue onto the stone.

Gordon
Yours Sincerely
