Where to get gemstones cut in New England
« on: November 14, 2014, 02:37:21 PM »
Hi everyone,

New to this forum and relatively new to fossicking in general. Moved to Armidale for uni (studying GeoScience) middle of the year and I've spent my spare time fly fishing for trout and cod around here which has been great. However I recently tried my hand at fossicking and am ridicuously hooked!

So far I've found very small sapphire and zircon from Wellinggrove however yesterday I found half a dozen or so beautiful pieces of clear Topaz down near Uralla (all about the size of a 10c piece) so I was wondering where I get these stones cut? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone!

We usually recommend Deb Resta of Sapphire City Gem Cutting for this type of work.  She is based in Inverell.

I can PM or email her contact details if you like - let me know.

Try the geology department at your armidale university.  The bloke who used to polish the thin sections for microscope work used to also dabble in faceting. It's over 16 years since I was last at armidale uni, but he may still be around.  Worth a try!!

That fellow is a customer of ours - he still facets but not sure if he does outside work.
