Mooralla Smokey's

(1/1)

tinker:
Hi folks am heading down to Halls Gap in a weeks time, just wondering if it is still worth while going to the Bear Fossicking area at Mooralla to look for Smokey Quartz Crystals.

Ranger Itchy:
Hi tinker,
It's always worth while going to Moralla it's just a matter of how much you can tolerate! The weather in Melb for the next week is going to be in the mid to high 30's so Beear fossickng area is probably going to be even hotter, there's no water there so you'll need to take plenty with you, plenty of sun screen and a hat, and at this time of year digging is a hard slog as the ground is baked solid, but with all this said it's up to you! I was there at the begining of February and I found the heat to much, you'd fossick for a couple of hours in the morning and the rest of the day you would just sit around drinking and trying to stay cool. Cheers Ranger Itchy

tinker:
Thanks Ranger Itchy,  I'v looked at the weather forecast for Halls Gap area for the rest of the week and it is not looking very favourable  to fossicking, Too hot.  I am going back down there end of June, so I think I will leave the digging until then.

Cheers
Tinker
