Title: Thunder Egg Cutting
Post by: Phfantom on March 29, 2021, 06:00:52 PM
Hi
I just registered with your forum.
Where can I get an old thunder egg I have CUT.
I contacted my local Lapidary Club but they refused to assist unless I joined the club.
(I was will to pay for the work)
I live in the NW suburbs of Sydney.
Any ideas
Thanks Phfantom

:o :o :o :o :o The cheek!
Good grief!
What's happened to encourage and promote the craft? Going back a number of years I know, but even club members paid per inch to slice something where I used to go. They would have jumped at anyone willing to pay for a service.Just how big is it in diameter..or the orientation you're after?
If we're talking bowling ball size or bigger.. I get it if they don't have the equipment, but to make you join would suggest they can do it but can't be bothered. Oh and I wouldn't be joining if it wasn't said tongue in cheek.
Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. How big is it ?, you could cut it with a tile saw if not too large ? I'm in Tassie so not able to help.

Hi Again
Background - I was once a member of my local Lapidary Club but pressure of work forced me to leave & focus on my career. Now I'm retired, I just like to maintain my collection of crystals, free form and rough specimens. With my current question regarding my Thunder Egg - its approx. 5" x 4" in size and is already broken so I know its solid with nice agate? veins.
With the cut orientation, I would follow the cutters recommendation to ensure a good result but the cut would be about 4" down and 5" across.
Maybe I will ask around at the next Gem and Lapidary Expo that is coming up soon?
Cheers Phfantom
