Where to Buy Slabs/Rough for Cabbing
« on: July 04, 2020, 01:22:14 AM »
I've just finished building a slant cabber (sorry Leah) and I've done a couple of practice cabs, but I now need to buy some stone for cabbing. The Covid thing has kept me at home so I can't go fossicking.

Any suggestions as to who might have some for sale, positively no gem/opal at this stage, just stuff that I can practice on.I'm happy to pay reasonable prices, but my budget is very limited.
I'm on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

I'm happy to help, PM me your address and I will put together a little package that you can have for the price of postage, Agate Petrified wood and whatever else I can find. I'm in Central Vic so it shouldn't take Aus post long to get it to you.

Your location should be handy to Tom Kapitany's place in Devon Meadows. Worth a visit for purchasing rough and if you're a member of a lapidary club, they offer a discount. They also do mail/phone order and the staff a very helpful. I don't work there but always visit when in Melbourne. Here's a link: https://www.crystalworldaustralia.com/

Gem shows are a great place for rough too ... but unfortunately none of them happening at the moment.

Friendly Heart Gems also has good material which they post ... and at reasonable prices. I've got some from them and have been very happy with it. You can find them on fb and Nathan is often here on ALF
Baaa humbug, not enough fossicking time!

Just got a lovely little package of stones to play with, thanks for that Rusted, tried to call but you must be out.
Send me you bank details and I will pay for the postage. Brilliant stones and the packaging wasn't too shabby either
