Cuttlefish casting
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:27:48 PM »
Hi, please advise where I can get or buy cuttlefish bone (besides going to sea fishing myself)?  I want them for silver casting.  I am in Brisbane.

Well you can generally find them in a big pet store, get the big ones if you can or try somewhere like House of Jewellery or the like. Generally 6ish in the box. Or, the beach after a really rough sea day.
oh....and it stinks.
Keep em comin!!!

I used to pick up heaps of those off the rocks at Elliot heads ( near Bundaberg ). Not very practical cost wise to drive that far! Unless they are expensive online...

Do you know what sizes you need or rather how thick do you need the cuttlefish bone to be to effectively cast your jewellery?

Thank you very much for all of u.

I am in Brisbane south side.  I picked up one in Wynum two days ago in the beach.  I found it in pet store cost $22 per kg.

How much is the post for you Luke to send them to Brisbane?  How do I pay you?

I'm guessing the one's from Luke will be well n truly dried out, this is a must.
You'll need to keep the one you found for a while before using.
Keep em comin!!!

Thank you very much guys.  Really thanks a lot.

Off topic.  What is GEMBOREE?  Is it just a gem show but a lot bigger than the local one?

Most likely I will be in Bundaberg during Easter holiday so I will go to have a look this year.
