Increasing Speed on Trim Saw
« on: March 13, 2023, 12:11:09 PM »
Just a stupid question but, I have been wearing out the MK305 Agate Kutter blades on my trim saw, the diamond dressing has just peeled off my last two blades.  I have contacted Brian at Gemcuts and he has been very helpful and has contacted the manufacturers in the US, the first suggested that I was using the side of the blade to cut my stones, which I haven't been doing, I use a dremmel to to this if necessary.  The other suggestion from the Manufacturers was that I was running my blade too slow, currently I have an 8" blade and the motor runs at 1470rpm's, they suggest I run the motor at 3,060 rpm's, but the saw has been cutting fine at this speed for years.  At present I have a 5 in pulley on the motor and a 2" on the drive shaft,  I have had no problems with these blades which I have using for the passed 12 years and except for the last two they have lasted a fair length of time, the last two blades have just delaminated  after about a month of use.  Okay me question is how do I increase the speed of the saw, Brian has told me how to do it but I am not very technically mined when it comes to machines, can anybody assist me in suggesting what size wheels I should be using to make the blade run faster.                                                                                                                                                                     Regards      Tinker(Crash test Dummy) hotthirsty

Is the motor a bit worn and getting slow, does it reach it's recommended speed? or is it not holding speed when cutting. Seems strange after 12 years you have to increase the speed.

According to an online pulley and RPM calculator you have the speed pretty well spot on, at 3675RPM. I used to do these calculations on the back of an envelope, don't bother these days, everything is online.

Sorry can't help with why your blades are wearing out though.
