Title: Tomahawk creek
Post by: Scratcher on April 21, 2024, 08:33:40 AM
Hi all,  after a bit of info if you don't mind. Looking at going for a few days to tomahawk creek, have searched this forum and read all the posts. Only thing is that they all seem quite old, I found the mud map and sort of was thinking about scratching around the featherbed. Question is has it been dug out? Or should I be looking somewhere else at tomahawk.? Only sort of interested in tomahawk as my grandfather used to spend quite a lot of time out there in the 80s however he never passed on his secret spot 😄. Don't want your secret one either just don't want to get down 4ft and dig up a VB can. Thanks Scratcher.

Tomahawk is such a big area that it's a lot easier to find new ground than at some of the other diggings, however that's no guarantee you aren't going to find a VB can mine.
A few years back I was doing alright on a very shallow bit of wash, I started to find rubbish sitting on the clay but was still finding a few good stones,  whoever had been there before thought the clay was too much work. It was a lot of work, but well worth the effort.

Thanks for the info, I will flip a coin and follow one of the tracks away from the main diggings. I'm not afraid to do a fair bit of digging, don't expect to find much, just something I have wanted to do for a while. But you never know your luck. I appreciate the reply. .

Take care with the little tracks as years back I found some were overgrown and very rutted and others had holes dug in the middle of them or that someone has set up camp over the track.  Can make turning around interesting. Best at times to go walkabout first

Handy info to know, I will pick a less used one and go for a walk first. Thanks for the reply.

Did you get out to Tomahawk? Did you find a good place to dig? Did you find some nice sapphires? Would be good to have an update

If your only going for a few days I'd just go to the Feather Bed run and jump in an existing hole.
