Aussie gem competition 1
« on: August 21, 2011, 03:55:50 PM »
Thought it was time to give a bit back to the forum ... and have some fun.

I'm giving away these four Aussie gems to the member who guesses closest to the combined weight of the stones to the nearest 0.01 of a carat ... I'm using scales bought from Aussie Sapphire so I know they'll be spot on!

The gems are (from left to right) garnet, amethyst, prehnite and smoky quartz.

Entry is limited to one per member.  If two guesses are equally close, then the person who submitted their entry first wins.

To give you a starting point on possible weight of the stones, the garnet is 5mm.

Entries close at 7:00pm Friday 26th August 2011 after which I'll advise the weight and winner.  The link to the gems and competition is http://aussiesapphire.com.au/forum/index.php?action=media;sa=item;in=2391

Edited to add the thumbnail.

We did something similar a while back - it was a lot of fun.

I will consider my guess first so over to others to have a go.  Got to be in it to win it  ;D

cheers

Nice looking stones. Worthy of gracing anyones gem collection.

My totally uneducated guess would be 15.3ct.

I'm a lot better at digging holes than picking weights.

Great idea getting the members to excersize their brains instead of their brawn.

Two days to go .... 23 guesses so far.  I've transferred all guesses to the media image section at http://aussiesapphire.com.au/forum/index.php?action=media;sa=item;in=2391;start=20.

Have a guess on the combined weight of these stones if you haven't already ... no one has guessed the exact weight yet!

The official scales are out ready ........

A couple of hours to go, so there's still time for new entries.

Going to be interesting to see who and how many are online at 7pm.  :D

BTW. Just checked my stats. I have now been logged in for 196 hours and 23 minutes on this forum.  :o

I'd hate to think of how many hours some of the more regular forumer's ( honest, it is a real word - - - - - now) have logged, like Miss M.
I started out with nothing
And still have most of it left.
