After the twin towers, September 11 disaster insurance everywhere went through the roof. With public liability insurance required to set up a stall at a show insurance went up to hundreds of dollars. What is the present state of play with regard to insurance for stalls at shows?

Hi Harry Opal  beers

I am getting insurance to cover fossickers & everyone who comes to my property. Obviously, tailgaters have their own insurance, as it is a requirement for all gem shows these days. We will be asking ALL fossickers to sign the indemnity forms regardless of age. They are written in "lawyer speak" & plain language so everyone will understand. It is a great pity that insurance is needed these days as "common sense" seems to be a lost trait.  :'(

The reason for choosing the NSW Queens Birthday weekend was to have it in the off season & mid way between Minerama & Gemfest. There was only one other gem show on that weekend so not much competition. If you run field trips where people can find gemstones & minerals, then regardless of the weather, they will support it. From the responses on the FB page, it already looks like it will be a huge success. The first post garnered 1406 responses in the 6 months it has been posted.  :o  Running it so that all profits go to charity is my way of giving back to those who have helped me in the past as well as an organisation that helps homeless veterans.

accommodation booked and can't wait for the weekend.  Just me and the young fella heading down.  Mostly coming for the field trips since there's not much to dig around north Brisbane although 8yr old has been counting his pocket money to buy something from the stalls.  This will be our first time heading out as part of an organised field trip so anything in particular we need.  we have a sieve set, a pick and shovel.
cheers Brett

G'day Brett  beers

There should be plenty of tailgaters coming so a wide variety of stuff to buy. Numbers I have no clue on how many will turn up but the FB page has had 1500 + views this week  :o  I have a local couple doing brekky all days & lunch on possibly 2 days.

The silver mine is mainly specking so maybe just a small pick & hammer & a strong back to carry specimens up the hill to the road. 3 waters has an area thats varying in the degree as to how much work you want to put in. Some of it has lots of rocks to move & there is a patch of overburdon but some good stones have been found there. Its all dry digging but the river is very close. Pick & shovel to get to the wash then sieves. The mystery trip has 2 sites which will be specking & digging tho seives can be used if desired.

Everything is coming together very nicely & it will be a great weekend. I have 2 old water tanks full of wood for fires & heaps of food organised.

Look forward to meeting you & your son.

Cheers,
Bob  beers
