Hi folks, could be a figment of my imagination (which is still riding the Monday roundabout) but I thought there was recently a thread regarding Dapto and the Princes Highway on here? Have searched the forums but couldn't find anything. Things are a little wet around home so I thought I might venture toward the coast to do some rock kicking.

Yes you are correct MissyP... about 8 months ago or thereabouts ...have you tried Wollongong area in your search? ..... :)

Thanks Gemster, at least I'm not losing my marbles here. Yes I tried all kinds of combinations, including Princes Highway, Wollongong, Dapto etc. From memory the bloke was digging up crystals at the side of the Princes Hwy near Dapto, I was hoping to get a better, perhaps more precise location. Might have to get the 4wd out and head up to Tuena instead lol

::) Sorry MissyP I can't be of any help...but I do remember the post.... Good luck in your search....

They were probably talking about the Browns mountain cutting on the F6 (Princess motorway) going south from the chinese temple, just before Kembla grange racecourse.Don,t think you would be able to fossick there now. I have a calcite specimen and some zeolites from that locale.

For sites further south check out my book "Field Geology of the Shoalhaven District" on this forum here: http://www.aussiesapphire.com/ALF_Storage/Field%20Geology%20of%20the%20Shoalhaven%20District%20John%20Paix%201970.pdf (http://www.aussiesapphire.com/ALF_Storage/Field%20Geology%20of%20the%20Shoalhaven%20District%20John%20Paix%201970.pdf) .
i know it's getting on to 50 years old, but it's still useful. Same as I am, except for the age! :D

Thanks Findem, you saved me a two hour drive on a whim lol. I will definitely check out the info you provided. Looking at the weather forecast I might just stick to Tuena, been getting some nice jasper up there. :)

FYI I was in Kangaroo valley last weekend - did find some good petrified wood, some jasper, and what I'm pretty sure is a small agate. I posted a thread on this last week I'll update now.

Awesome, thanks Mr Sydney. Our club members are going to Coalcliff this weekend, unfortunately ill health prevents me from going but they should come up with some nice fossils etc.
