Advice on sapphires for an engagement ring

Hi there,

I'm planning to get a ring cast (see attachment) and then get a jeweller to set stones that I buy myself and would like to avoid making mistakes along the way.

So here are a few questions:

1. The settings listed for the ring are as follows: 1 x 0.33    2 x 0.25    2 x 0.18.
Can you tell me what this means? Is it a measurement of weight or size?

2. I'm planning on getting sapphires and getting the ring cast in 18K white gold. Any suggestions on how much the five sapphires should cost if I go for a medium colour aussie sapphire VVS or better?

3. Any suggestions for the best blue colour grade to go for with white gold?

4. Any suggestions for reputable jewellers in Sydney who would be prepared to take on the job of setting the stones?

5. Any other traps for beginners?
