Jewellery findings
« on: November 22, 2011, 08:38:55 AM »
Can anyone tell me where we can buy jewellery findings in Australia. 9ct and sterling silver. Preferably snap tite. Son is stepping up his cutting and would like to get into jewellery making also. Simple things to start with.

Hi Sioux,
I have dealt with A&E Metal Merchants for the past six years and have found them to be the best supplier of findings.  They are an Australian Company based in Sydney, they have all types of precious and semi precious metals, findings etc.   They have a web site and you can call the mail order department and they will have your order to you the next day.  There are other suppliers but I haven't found them as good, plus A&E process all their materials at their factory.

Hi Sioux,

Most jeweller's suppliers will have a limited range of findings in a range of precious metals. If you live in a state capital it is relatively easy to get to them and see what they have in their catalogues. The problem is they tend to focus on stone settings 6mm and under, which isn't helpful if your son cuts larger than that.

You can also try gem shows, there are some dealers who sell findings also.

Otherwise train your son to cut to calibrated sizes, your best chance to find a setting is to cut to common sizes.

Thanks for the info. We live at Moranbah but have just been out to our claim at rubyvale for a few days. We went to a number of places getting prices for findings and did end up buying some. I have also bought some online, including from Aussie Sapphires, to get him started.
