Snap sure settings
« on: March 11, 2012, 05:55:57 PM »
Hey, i'm just wondering if there are many other snap-sure blank settings available other than ones listed at Aussie Sapphire.  I'm about to order a couple of blank settings but i have a few stones that i can't find any kind of setting for, are there others available say 10mm X 6mm for example or are the sizes listed pretty well the only ones available?

Any other advice for buying/using blank settings appreciated :)

Yeah sure did, nothing to write home about.  Got 4 .5 ct chips and a 5ct bomb so as per usual, i must be closer to a decent stone lol.  Every trip out without finding a cutter just makes me 1 trip closer to finding one :)

It's surprisingly dry out there though, other than that 1 puddle below the dump it's dry out there, wash is pretty dry, clay is damp but has that hard skin on the top still.

where there's bombs theres better quality stuff too.  tomahawk has the lowest percent chance of finding something good, but usually when they are good, they're excellent.

Definately going to head out in two weekends time.  Maybe ill see you out there then.

Yes - you should be able to get these from a number of suppliers.  BUT, they are available in calibrated sizes only so while 10x8 mm is a standard size, 10x6mm is not (in oval or emerald).  So we should have most of the main sizes listed but if you measure up your stones and let us know, we can look up and check to make sure.  There would probably be a few sizes in less popular shapes that we dont always have in stock - can easily get but again only in the standard sizes.

This is the main reason I suggest people pay extra to get their stones cut in calibrated sizes as it makes it much easier to set them later.

good luck with the baby - sounds like it will be any day now.

cheers

Cheers Leah!

I have so few stones i have been reluctant to get them cut in calibrated sizes because of the stone loss :(.  My 10 X 6 would have only made a 6mm round in a calibrated size, i just couldn't bring myself to do it... Maybe as i find more stones i will be more accepting of losing weight for calibrated sizes.
