It's been a looong time, but I have found sapphires in the Toombullup area between Tolmie and Tatong and the Dandenong Ranges in various places including the now defunct Cardinia Creek. Both areas are now somewhat dubious due to state forestry and private property and you would have to check on access. Beechworth has had sapphires found in Reedy Creek, but not me personally. All of the ones I found were of a smaller size and not necessarily cutters.

Darryn,   I've found small sapphires at Mitta Mitta in the Mitta Mitta Creek, along with jasper and quartz crystals.

Hi Bucket, is there a creek or river to sieve in or is it dry sieving and washing?
If there is a creek …. What is the creek to fossick in?

Like I said, it's been a really long time but having looked at a map of the area I'd say it was in Ryans Creek which runs next to Tatong-Tolmie Rd, it was in the creek bed and it should have water all year. It's near a historic area where Ned Kelly shot Const. Lonergan and I think there's a small campground in that area. As it was a long time ago, it may well be worked out by now but it's a beautiful area and I can't recommend the Tatong Tavern highly enough!
By the way, don't forget your Miners Right!
