Great job Jerry. Wish I was closer.
Yes a long way for me and even longer for you. There were a couple of Victorians up there including 2 ALFer's so it is doable.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Jerry, by any chance the two Victorians you met were named Daryl & Dave? If so there a couple I know from the Bendigo & Essendon Clubs. Lucky Buggers !  Droo

I already described David as a lucky sod on a thread here before he even left, they were looking for the new prospecting area, I posted a request for information about it.

You did pretty well  Jerry. Did you  speck them or dig them.?  I know we dug all of ours except for one the Mrs actually specked . I've never tried walking the gullies specking. If that's how you found yours it may be worth doing a bit of walking next time I'm there.

Dug 5 stones in bottom 6 inches of a hole the rest were specked  ;D  also scratched around the specked stones to a depth of 1 inch. Not the gullies but an old mullock heap was the source of the topaz.

Geez that's too easy. First time we went out we dug the end of one of those old tin mine mullock heaps along Obriens and we got a few topaz and a lot of smokey. This time out we had a bit of a look at that old heap on the track to McDonalds/Blue Hills but didn't have a scratch there.

Nice haul there Jerry :)

I have no idea how much I have here from Mount Gibson but it's mostly a bit small. Still plenty of cutters though, make good shoulder stones for rings or have a number of them surrounding a larger stone in a setting.

Quite a few smokey crystals, I found my first ever vug, it was filled with smokies. I managed to extract a fair few with a screwdriver but the biggest ones were firmly attatched to the wall and wouldn't come out. It was in solid rock in a narrow crevice so no chance of busting it open with hand tools.

I've only attemped to facet one bit of topaz so far and had a lot of polishing problems unrelated to the cleavage plane (ie, on every facet on the pavilion regardless of the direction), hopefully the next one won't be so troublesome, topaz really is a nice looking stone.

Sounds like you are having a good trip Lefty. Now if you could spend a couple of days relaxing at the Hot Springs  you'd be right to start back at work.

Hi Paul, if they get good storms and rain in the wet season (summer) then I will drop in next winter.

This year it was a hot winter and I cooked.  hotthirsty
