Title: Gerald Wykoff CJP ebooks and CD collection wanted
Post by: FireFlyer on June 03, 2020, 04:17:26 AM
I am new to faceting and was looking for Gerald Wykoff's ebooks and CD collection. Looking for those dealing with building the CJP and calibrated dop sticks. Since I saw evidence of folks who have gotten the plans, I figured I would ask here to see if anybody had them.

Yes, I checked eBay and have searched the internet to see if I could purchase them. So far, no luck.

Thanks for any help.

Rick

Hi Rick.
 Welcome to ALF.
In answer to your query, try The Old Pueblo Lapidary Club for the CD.
I think you can download part or all of it.
They will probably be able to help you with the books as well.
Regards,   Ghost.

Thank you! I have some of his printed books coming, but the ebooks have been next to impossible to find.

I called their Librarian and he said they don't have it.

The search continues.

Their web site has a link to Facetors CD.
The Index of /cd_download page has an .EXE file which I cannot test as I am using  a iMac rather than Windows computer.
The page says that it was last updated 2015-10-08 14:25 24M
This is the best I can do, but I suspect that you have already tried the site.
Regards, Ghost.

Ok, the CD collections don't seem to have Mr. Wykoff's books on them. That said, they are wealth of information.

In looking around, I did discover that Online Lapidary Museum (a google site) that had some pictures. It was there that I figured out the mast slot device was grooved every 4 degrees. Using trig and the "peg" at 6 inches, that means that the center to center difference is 0.42 inches.

Each side is offset on the base cut by 0.11 inches. So start with the 90 degree mark equals the Zero point on side 1. Side 2 offsets by the 0.11 inch. Side 3 is offset from the zero mark by 0.21 and Side 4 is offset 0.31 inches. Every groove about the bases is 0.42" offset on center. From there is basically jig and router work.

Should have a working example this weekend. Using 1/8 inch grooves. It should be fairly close to the original picture I saw.

It seems that I have found one of Mr. Wykoff's CJP faceting machines with a bunch of extras and the booklet that went with it. Once I get it, I will digitize the book into a PDF. Probably will YouTube the machine help folks with constructing their own if they wish. Took me some time but I should have it Monday.

Hi Fireflyer,
Me again with some useless information.
There was a thread on this forum in 2010/2011 that may interest you titled:
Review of Gerald Wykhoff's CJP Calibrated Jamb Peg Faceting Machine .

Here is Gerald Wykoff's Patent Application.
The site gives detailed descriptions and mentions a number of diagrams which you may be able to access with a little searching.
I have accessed a number of patent applications for other machines, but not sure which site they came from.

The Online Lapidary Museum also has some detailed photos.

Sorry I misunderstood your initial enquiry and sent you on a wild goose chase.

No worries mate!

I was working on creating the jig when the full machine popped up with the booklet. Thanks for the help!

Now I can create the jig for the jamb and work up the plans so it is not lost to time.

Would have been easier if the grandkids had kept up the business. Ready made income stream.

Oh well.

Have to see if any of my rough emeralds are clear.

Thanks!
