Saws and Diamond Blades / Diamond Cutting Blades
« on: November 06, 2020, 01:06:10 PM »
Hi learned people, I have used a 7" MK303 diamond sinter blade on my Lorton trim saw for about ten years, just recently I purchased a new blade and was cutting Petrified Wood, id cut three pieces of the stone each about 6x3 into 5mm slices when id finished cutting the wood, I had no diamond cutting edge left and was down to the metal of the blade.  Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong, as these blades have been great for Agate, but its the first time I've actually cut petrified wood with them.

Help ;)

Hi guys, just wondering whether anybody can recommend an entry level metal detector, I have a son in law, that wants to get into serious gold detecting and was seeking my advise.   I told him it was too hard and he would be better off looking for gem stones,  any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Learned colleagues, I have recently came into some Matrix Opal from Winton in Queensland, It is the raw material and I have been told, to get the colours to come up in the stone.  You either have to burn it in sugar or in a light oil, is that correct, I was  previously told that you use sulphur acid and sugar.   Any advise would be much appreciated. beers

Cabbing and More / Problems with Polishing
« on: November 08, 2018, 09:46:39 AM »
Hi all,
Just a silly question, I have been cabbing for the passed 15 years and oringinally used Silicone Carbide Wheels on my machine, which gave a great final product.   About 3 years ago I changed to diamond wheels and have found that they leave scratches on the final surface, I have used fine grit wheels to try and get the scratches out but to no avail.   I'm thinking of going back to the Silicone Carbide, but before I do can anybody suggest what I could be doing wrong. hotthirsty
