Hi everyone Does anyone know anywhere around or reasonably close to the Sunshine Coast in QLD where I can take my two grandkids fossicking with a chance of them finding something. Even quartz will do. They're both really keen and I would really love them to get interested and take it up. Agate Ck or Mt Suprise would be perfect but it's too far away for them. Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone Has anyone been to O'briens Ck recently? Is the camping ground still operating and if so, is it still being run by the same people? It's been about five years since I was there, but I'm eager to get up there this year.

Hi everyone, has anyone ever fossicked around Grenfell (near Young) and if so, are there any decent spots to go. I hear there are State Forests nearby?

Lesley and I tried out the new Billabong Blue last weekend and we had a ball. Ended up with 77cts of good stones with the biggest being a 6ct blue/green dogtooth and a 5.5ct red zircon, plus we gave some away to the kids in the tent next door that weren't finding any. Hell of a drive for us, 9 hrs one way with only 2 days fossicking, but it was worth it, wish I knew how to post photos, maybe next time. By the way, the new owners are extremely accommodating, well, when I say new, Bill is still there, he just has some new partners. Definitely going back. Claude

Hi everyone A good friend of mine has just started a new venture, he's just opened up the new and improved Billabong Blue Sapphire Fossicking Park. It's at the end of Swanbrook Rd, approximately 22km from the Inverell Information Centre. The road is tarred right to the gate. You can contact him on 02 67251798 (AH) or 0422443040. There is bush camping as well as free range fossicking. Sounds pretty good.

Went fossicking at the sister in laws farm on the weekend. Water was warm, so I jumped in and started looking for saphires but after half an hour all I found was leeches, extremely large ones , eight to be exact attached to my legs. Looked extremely promising but I think I'll wait for next time, when I remember to bring the waders. Claude

Hi Alfers Starting to organise my annual pilgrimage to Mt Suprise with Agate Ck thrown in for good measure this year. Should any Alfers be around either of the two spots during the July school holidays and see my trusty Patrol (DOM105) drop in and say hi. Claude

Hi everyone I was just wondering if anyone has been to Wee Jasper lately, or knows where to fossick around that site. The last post I can find was in 2009 when the leaseholder had a fight with a thoughtless fossicker from Canberra and was about to close the site. Has the site been reopened? Now that my son lives in Canberra we are going to be visiting the area more regularly and would like to know of any options around that area. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Claude
