Mt Jukes Cape Hillsborough Areas
« on: September 15, 2010, 05:31:28 PM »
Hi All,
I was wondering if there was anyone out there with any information about these areas for fossicking (outside Nat Parks) I have heard antidotal evidence of good finds of stones like Amethyst, small Zircon, topaz to name a few. One in particular about some nice Amethyst of good quality. Any regular Amethyst fossickers out there what do you look for to identify good ground to start digging  ???? It is difficult to find useable information.
I just need top find somewhere close to scratch around when i cant get to Rubyvale to satisfy the itch to dig.
Thanks For your Help
 beers
I Guess Ill keep Diggin or Fishing Hmmm or Golfing. There's just not enough hours in a day!!

drft_er suggest you join or talk to a local lapidary club for info, should be one in Mackay or Bowen.

Old info in How and Where to find Gemstones suggests garnets and zircons near mines at Pinevale. Common opal on Mt Britton and cooper and Hall Cks.  Green sand containing epidote at Carmila Beach etc
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.
