7 Oaks sapphire fossicking and camping property
« on: January 27, 2009, 08:50:48 AM »
Hello to all.
Here is some info for our fossicking and camping property near Inverell.I have attached a file showing a map and other info
The 7 Oaks Fossicking Property is located 20kms from
Inverell and has been producing
sapphires since the 1960s. Located on the Frazer Creek,
visitors are welcome to fossick at the facilities set up adjacent
to the mining operation or you can prospect along the creek
and gullies. We provide all equipment and instruction
required to fossick.
The fossicking and picnic areas are under large shady trees
with parking right at the site. Bring your lunch. There are
BBQ’s if you prefer a cooked lunch. The sapphire gravels
are guaranteed virgin wash. You will be given a tour of our
mine area upon admission. You can either prebook or just
show up on the day. We suggest prebooking in Holiday
Times.
Prices are as follows for fossicking
Adults $20
Child 8/14 $10
Camping and Fossicking
Adults $30
Child 8/14 $20
Also we have 2 sizes of pulsators that we hire out.One is a hand fed type and the other is our actual pulsator that we use for our own processing.

Contact Peter or Nicole on 02 6725 1582 or visit the website

Hi Peter,
Nice place you have out there :D  I visited last year & you showed me round ... thanks for that !

For anyone who hasn't visited .....

7 Oaks is a very pleasant spot for fossicking.  Everything is provided and you can choose to dig from the supplied heaps of wash or you can dig in Frasers Creek.  The area has been mined but there are still opportunities for good finds - Frasers Creek is one of the main sapphire-bearing creeks in the area.

The wash from Frasers Creek has quite a lot of clay in it so it should be "puddled" for a while before washing to make sure you don't miss any stones. I usually fill several buckets with wash and then fill them with water and then go and have a cup of tea - leaving it to soak for a while before I start seiving.

Here are a couple of pictures I took a few years ago ...

Hi Peter, :)
Will try to get out to your 7 Oaks in March.
Been flat out digging elsewhere in the past.

Paul we must try there together this year while we are up.

Jerry
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Paul thanks for the heads up ;).That first picture is fairly early days. Its amazing how far the tubs now sit from the water tank due to the many tons of wash that have been washed and tossed down the hill.I will attach a pic of the same area i reckon its grown out about 8 metres.I was doing some sums the other day and we estimate that in the 10 months that we have had 7 Oaks. The visiting fossickers have processed about 75 tonnes of wash.My backs hurting just thinking about it ;D

Deb,
Bring the animals with you my animals wont mind

Jerry,
I look forward to seeing you then

Cheers
Peter

Ok now where do I find an ARK on wheels  ;) to take 30 odd chooks, 7 Peafowl (very loud), 6 Guinea Fowl, 7 Turkeys, numourous pure bred Chooks, 13 Alpacas, 1 Goat, 2 dogs ( A Dacshund and a German ping pong ball Koolie)and 1 cat, oh and BTW lots of Roosters hehe. Oh and 1 Turkey who thinks he is a dog that wants cuddles and chases the cars down the driveway crying.

I could help turn 7oaks into a zoo  ;)

One day when I get my own way and Ma & Pa are free to animal sit.

Take Care
Deb  ;D
Ron and I have an Appointment to do some Laps ;) ;D
