Has anyone tumbled perspex or glass?
« on: January 31, 2012, 12:49:48 PM »
hi there. trying to tumble perspex or glass to achieve a matt surface with slightly rounded edges. Has anyone tumbled bottle glass or perspex and if so what medium would be best and how long do you think? trying to recycle glass and plastic for jewellery. thanks in advance ... peter

We have had a number of customers who tumble various plastics for jewellery and other jobs - some want gloss finish and others are looking for a satin finish so you just need to choose the right kind of media to get the finish you are looking for.

Would suggest trying something like a ceramic medium or fast cut media for matt finish.  We have fine cut plastic tumbling media but the customer who was doing resin jewellery felt they were not quite agressive enough.  YMMV so it may be just a matter of trying a couple of different types and seeing what works best.

Glass should be no problem - this is the classic "beach glass" effect that is easily achieved by tumbling with some abrasive grit or media - some even use sand.

Less time than tumbling rocks - perhaps a few days.  Check every day until you get a feel for how long it takes to get the finish you want.
