My windows rattling
« on: June 08, 2012, 11:01:36 PM »
The Tamworth & Gunnedah region struck by 3.9 quake at around 930 pm, very strange feeling, a very rare accurance in my region, mind you we are sitting on a very old fault, 300 million years back was more active than the San Andreas fault.

Not sure of the intensity yet but it seems to vary between 3.9 & 4.7.
I wondered what the hell was going on  :o Luckily, being on FB, I started getting info that I wasnt going crazy  :-[ Seems the area it was felt is quite large.

The last one I was in was the Newcastle Earthquake but, being on a boat, I didnt feel a thing  :P

I'm glad you came out unscathed. I bet you were wondering when you first felt the quake that perhaps you were feeling the effects of a bad piece of haggis.  :-\ What a relief that it was only an earthquake!  ???  ;)
It's events like these that remind us that we are just mere mortals ... a healthy reminder indeed!
Baaa humbug, not enough fossicking time!

I felt both shakes in Glen Innes. They were the first I've experienced since I lived in Exeter in 1987. Just like the good old days.  :o :o

Missed that one - must have been asleep or thought it was thunder.

When I lived in Ashford (early 1980's), we felt quite a few minor tremors.  Very weird - they would often feel and sound like a train coming in and then rumbling away in the distance.  Apparently Ashford is a bit of a hot spot for shallow minor tremors according to GeoScience Australia.

Here is the info on this latest one:

Thanx Leah  ;D Thought that 2nd one was stronger. Apparently it was felt as far away as Sydney.  :o

I thought it was thunder at first & went outside to see a clear sky. FB & Twitter went crazy with reports coming from everywhere in the area. I was checking updates on NBN site.
