Searching Victoria
« on: November 21, 2013, 04:54:27 PM »
gday folks.. just wondering if anyone can give me the heads up on some good places to go gemstone hunting in Victoria?
Research so far is pointing me to Mortlake, Morralla, Beechworth ... Are these places still viable for fossicking?
Appreciate your thoughts on the subject : )

Welcome Suzi.. There are some great spots in Victoria I'm a Mexican also. WHere about in Victoria are you. Best advice I ever got was to join a lapadary club. I joined the warragul club and have had the best time. The people are awesome and are always willing to help. There have been a few posts on here about Vic so just search through them
also the forum members are soo helpful its amazing.
Rock on...

Hi Suzi and welcome to ALF.  XT is right, your first port of call should be your local club, they have regular field trips and information from experienced fossickers and how to find stuff.  Not only that but what to do with it when you do find something.  If you're on the eastern side of Melbourne there are a number of places like the Powelltown area, Stratford and a few other areas closish to Melbourne.
Common sense isn't exactly common

Welcome to the forum Suzi. Finding new fossicking sites is a constant search. As the others said, join a club, it is a great place to start. Otherwise if you are down West Gippsland way there a few of us on the forum from this area who could take you out.  Cheers
Baaa humbug, not enough fossicking time!
