PMC - Precious Metal Clay
« on: May 05, 2009, 07:23:08 AM »
Muddy,
Finally remembered the product that you were talking about.
PMC.
This is a "Clay" made of either Gold, Fine Silver and I've just found out they are now selling Bronze.
This is where you model and texture the clay into the desired shapes and then heat to remove the water content. The final piece will be smaller so you need to allow for this.
Cubic Zirconias (NOT Zircons) can be set in prior to heating.
Oodles of books and kits to buy.
You might want to check out
www.pmcguild.com

This gives info on education , product and technical developments.
Will try to find the Aussie supplier later.
Or as Leah says " Google it" :D

I've never tried this but some creations are wonderful.
Certainly a time saver compared to the traditional method.

Merryn.
Keep em comin!!!

Google is your friend !!!

We've used this website a couple of times when we needed display chains (plated) in a hurry.

http://www.polymerclay.com.au/

They sell a lot of beading supplies, wire, etc that we wont be getting into - beading is a whole new world that I wouldnt begin to try and understand.  They stock PMC although it seemed only silver at a glance.  See here for some PMC tips:

There would be many other suppliers out there - this is very popular these days.  There is often articles in Jewelry Artist (used to be Lapidary Journal) on PMC since the renaming of the  magazine.

cheers
Leah

Hi Merryn, that's great - thanks for thinking of me! I will certainly pursue this. ;D

What started off as 'just an interest in fossicking' could lead me into all sorts of wonderful things to learn... cabbing, jewellery making, funky art stuff... who knows what next?!
