FAQ: Using the Media Gallery
« on: May 27, 2013, 05:22:12 PM »
Using the Media Gallery feature to store your photographs is an easy way to store and access your images - plus it allows other members to comment on and discuss them.  See below for instructions.

1. click on the Media Gallery button on the top menu bar.
2. choose an album to post your image - new public albums can be added on request or you can create your own album (click on MYGALLERY).
3. click the "Add Picture" button
4. enter the details and upload your picture
5. once the above is finished, insert an Image Linking Code into a post or existing thread. Image Linking Codes are visible at the bottom of each new Gallery item

IMPORTANT:   photographs are limited in size to maximum of 1200 pixels width or length.  We recommend keeping your photos around 800 pixels or less in width as this saves on horizontal scrolling.

NOTE:   photos by "newbie" members need to be approved by moderators so they wont show up straight away.  This helps us keep the spammers away but we'll get them up on display as soon as possible. Once you have been added to the ALF'ers member group, your photos will be automatically approved.

All photos in the gallery will be displayed in the Random Image box at the top so everyone can see them.

Use the Image Linking Code to insert a thumbnail in your posts. It looks like this:

Code: [Select]

You can also use the Image Linking Code to insert a medium-sized image in your posts. It looks like this:

Code: [Select]

where the number is the unique id number for each item.

Any queries - just ask.

Have just got a status email from the system that the attachments folder is now full.

I will fix this shortly and also delete some of the older obsolete attachments.

However, I would strongly encourage ALL members to use the Media Gallery instead of attaching images as attachments to messages.

Doing it this way has the advantage that images are stored in the Media Gallery so they can be commented on, rated or searched - they will also show up in the Random Image box at the top of the page so other members get the opportunity to see them and discuss them.

PLUS - the Media Gallery does not have this folder overload issue so we can keep adding without worrying about filling it up.

You can still add them to your messages using the BBS embed code as described in the previous message.

Would images as attachments in a signature cause a problem as well?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Uploaded avatars are saved in the same folder so there will be a problem there until I increase folder size and delete a few excess files but not sure about signature images.

Working on this today when I get a minute.
