Hi all,
I guess the post title say it all.  I wouldn't have the foggiest idea where or how to begin looking for quartz crystals in the Canberra area. So just a few general questions I can think of, please add any more information that you would believe to be of help.  Many thanks in advance !

  • Equipment to begin the first few tentative steps into fossicking,
  • What to look for as an area to dig,
  • How difficult will the terrain be to dig,
  • After how long would it averagely take to know you are digging in the right area,
  • What types of quartz crystal can I expect to find, and
  • How variable the size and qualities can be.

Hi Qness and welcome to ALF.  :)

Best bet would be to check out the lapidary club in Canberra for where is accessible.  Actfossicker is still up north at present so he cannot reply at present.

Best I can do is sent you to this topic

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Would endorse Jerrys comments about the Lapidary club in Canberra. They are a great place to learn, can give you lots of tips and often run trips to different fossicking locations
Baaa humbug, not enough fossicking time!

There is a good supply of clear quartz crystal on private property at Muttama between Cootamundra and Coolac, also on the Burra Rd at Muttama.  The Canberra Lapidary Club have an annual outing there.  If you get onto Ted (Fossickeract) he might be able to help you out
