Tourmaline Pendant - 5.55ct Opposed Bar - Half Bezel Set
« on: May 19, 2009, 10:23:32 PM »
I thought I would show off one of my older gems that has recently been fashioned into a piece of stunning jewelery.

The specs of the stone.

Green Tourmaline - Semi-Closed Yellow C
Mozambique
5.55ct
Smith Bar

There is a little row of feather/crack inclusions towards the bottom of the stone, they appear to be on the right, interestingly, they are on the left hand side but appear on the right through a series of reflections, it is a shame they are there, but in daylight you need to hunt for them to pick them up.

Cutting - 600 Crystalite Steel - > 3k BATT -> 50k BATT (Pavilion) 50k Darkside (Crown)

The pendant is 9K yellow gold, half bezel set and strung on a 1.6mm 9ct Snake Chain.

Simple and elegant who did the setting if I might ask,I think the Smiths Bar is hard to beat in tourmaline.

The setting was done by a Brisbane based artisan jeweller, Peter Gordon. It is hand-made from my design concepts (not that they are particularly original)

Simple and elegant was what I specified when I asked for it, I wanted the stone to be the real centrepiece with quality goldwork to frame and showcase a quality stone.

I probably should have shown from the side too, but the basket starts just under the girdle.
