go to mitre 10 and ask for the map. There is a slight charge but it will take you to the site.

Hi,
Yes Mitre 10 give a mudmap and can show you some samples if you don't know what you are looking for. I was a bit uncertain following the map but got there. The site is 15km approx out of town on mainly dirt roads. You know you are there when you pass a grid and there is a rusty tractor on the right. There is a faded sign saying it is fossicking area and that you need a displayed permit. I have photos of the site if they would help

Cost is only $5.00 per car which I think is donated to charity.

Thanks for that info Sioux. I have passed through there so many times I should have gone out there earlier. Will be coming back from Cairns in late october, so I will make a point of going out there  Regards  Alleycat

Hi Alleycat
Last time I was there Mitre ten had the map for $10 which is said to go towards weed control? They are on the ground easy to find. I don't know if you would get more if you dry seive. Send the larger ones off to lamberts and ask for briolet (water drop) cut in pairs for ear rings. Single ones are Ok for pendants. All you have to do is add a bell cap and you have a nice piece of jewellery. Don't forget they are soft and not very suitable for rings.

Thanks for the info on Sprigsure Outear. Sioux and Maxxxy have also been helpfull. I am determined to get to Springsure for labradorite this time after passing through so many times. I have family in Emerald who can never make up their mind and they throw all my planned schedules into disarray. I had planned to be in Springsure on a friday so the Mitre 10 would be open, but now I shall have to pass through there in late November on our way home from Cairns and hopefully put in a couple of days fossicking there. We will have our caravan with us and know about the free stop out of town, but has anyone got info on the showgrounds site or the van park from experience.  Thanks again to all  AlleycT

Took one look at Cvan park and left, too cramped. Showgrounds pleasant, showers hot, washing machine worked. Money is collected by a lady who  has lots of info. She lives in house just inside the archway. Clean as possible for an older facility, we will go back. Cost $20 per night for powered site last year. Hope it helps.  beers

Thanks Pegatha I have seen the caravan park when getting fuel and formed the same opinion as you that it looked very cramped and to be honest, not very inviting.
