Sorry - dont have any specifics on it but hopefully others can point you in the right direction.

Some reading:

Comparative Analysis of Sedimentary and Volcanic Opal - The Tintenbar opal is volcanic.

I vaguely remember that there might have been some field trips after this gem at one of the Lismore Gem Shows.

I've just done a bit of looking around as this is my area, you could try emailing Bruce Copper at bcopper@nor.com.au of the Lismore Gem and Lapidary club http://www.lapidaryworld.com/lismore.html or hop on over to the Tintenbar store and maybe ask them where the old opal mine is.. it's close by.. you go up past it on George st. My wife's folks have an old sweat hole on their property where they were prospecting for it back in the day... But the gem club would know what to do and where to go, you'd be taking your life in your hands wandering into a 90 year old abandoned mine... I'm sure there are better places to have a look.

Hi Steve,

I have to be honest in saying I don't know. I do have 3 pieces for sale on my site, and I do know they come from Lightning Ridge, but that is the extent of my knowledge on this.

I hope you find the source your looking for.

Take Care,
Deb ;D

Hi Steve,
I believe Honey Opal has been found in the creek at the end of Rocky Creek Road which is about 4km from Minyon Falls.  Once you get to the creek (at the end of the road) go left down the creek about 100m.  This info is quite old so you probably should get a good map of the area.  If you need more specific info then let me know.
Regards, Paul

hey me and jaden1 went back out to Rocky Creek on Sunday. I managed to forget the map this time but managed to find the area after a long stop at a bountiful mulberry tree we recomposed ourselves and found the creek. We didn't find much a few small pieces but because there is no more rocky creek rd sign i think the road we took, intersected the creek at the wrong position because we found all our little pieces heading up stream rather than 100 m down so once again lucky for us there is always next weekend.

The mulberry pie we made when we got home made it all worth while.
