Working on Media Gallery

Just letting members know that we are working on a new Photo Gallery.  Please be patient while we check all the permissions and settings.

Note some photos have disappeared - this is related to some problems with the previous gallery.  We will do all we can at this end first but some may have to be re-uploaded.  Stay tuned for more on this.

There will be a couple of new ("asked-for") features but just getting it set up and worked out now before we give you the full run-down.

New Gallery should be visible to all of you now.

We have had some glitches with the converter so bear with us while we sort that.  You will notice that none of the Albums show an accurate count but there are actually images in there so disregard the zero counts.  Quite a few thumbnail images did not convert so you may have to click into the image details to see.  Working on those issues now.

Working on the comments - they are there in the database but something weird going on to not show on the image.  They are not lost and should be restored very soon.  When we get it all up and running, when you post a picture, it will default to sending you an email notification when members comment on your image (you can turn this off if you dont want it).  This is a feature that has been asked for so hopefully will be good.

Still working on a few little glitches but getting there.

Hi Leah,
Is the option regarding gallerys being restricted to members still there? I had all my pictures members only as I don't want them floating around google and only available to those contributing on this forum.

Yes - it is no problem to restrict Albums as you require.

I think it may be a setting you have to set though.  Can you go to your albums - over on the right, there should be an option for Permissions.  If you look under that, you can set them to be private as you need - ie. Under Guests Permissions, untick all options and they should be off limits to anyone not logged in.

My photos no longer appear, if you haven't finished your updating, tell me and I will wait until you have finished.

Otherwise,
I clicked on Gallery - MyGallery
It lists my 2 Galleries (Frosty's Misc and Frosty's Stones) I click on either of those and there are no photos.

Any thoughts.

I checked your albums and that is strange - appears not to be related to the thumbnail problem which we are working on now as for most albums, the photos are still there, just the thumbnails have been lost in the conversion.  With your two albums, I cannot see anything in there.

Leave it with me for now until we get the thumbnails restored and then we will work on it.

Just looked and all my images don't have thumbnails. It would be nice to have thumb nails, is there a way of regenerating them.

Yes - they are being regenerated now.  I just checked on your albums and yours should be right now:

Note - I randomly picked some images as gallery thumbnail images - you can change any of them by going into any photo (details page) and clicking button above that says "Set as Category Thumbnail" - that will use that particular image as the thumbnail for that gallery.

Not all galleries restored yet but should be right soon.

NOTE:  there appears to be no way of restricting USER galleries to members only - I was mistaken about that.  I can restrict main gallleries (which I have done) so that guests can see the thumbnails but cannot see main image (on details page) unless they are logged in.  For some reason, User Galleries are treated differently - perhaps because normal members do not have access to the permissions that administrators have.  You can set them to be Private but this requires you to manually add any member that you want to be able to access the album (not the other way round).  I am talking to developer now about being able to add membergroups to the approved list instead of individual members so that you could (if you wanted to) make an album private and restrict to Regular Members instead of Guests.  For what it is worth, the old gallery operated the same way in that guests could see your images but will see what we can do to make access more flexible to suit your needs.
