Can I go out to Blue Hills or is it closed.
« on: March 10, 2015, 11:10:35 AM »
Hi all,
I'm a new comer to this form.
I do a bit of fossicking for gems. I was out at o'brien's creek on the weekend just specing and found a few nice stones. I noticed that that the turn off to the jump up had new signs one had blue hills which I was told was closed. When I got up the top I found at the crystal/swampy turn off another sign marked blue hills. My question is " Are the Blue Hills reopened to fossicking or has someone just put the signs up?" I found signs all the way up to O'Brien's  up the second jump up.
And does anyone know when the camp grounds are opening on Elizabeth creek?

Cheers if you can help. Would be nice to go out to the blue hills, I have been told that there are good stones out there.

Hi Christensen, welcome to ALF.  :)

Blue Hills area is outside the fossicking reserve and permission to fossick out there has been withdrawn for a number of years same goes for Spring Creek area. So sadly they are no go areas now in part because some fools did a lot of wrong things out there and partly because of leases.

As for Elizabeth Creek Camping grounds contact Maureen Solinas on 07 40623001.

Surprised you got up the jump ups as this is usually the wet season and tracks are not dry enough for traffic.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Cheers for the info.

The creeks are still running but the tracks were dry with a few small washouts. The crossing at Elizabeth  Creek is a new concrete crossing and  only became passable on friday i was told.

Concrete on Elizabeth Creek crossing will be good.  :) I will not miss the two major potholes on that crossing.
Hope it holds remember the bitumen they tried at Agate Creek washed away.

Will probably drop in at O'Briens on the way home in late June. Have not been north since 2012.

I'm a bit jealous Jj, two months at Agate Crk is something I can only dream of.  Had a awesome dream last week about digging Agates, they were come out everywhere I dug and perfectly formed.  ;D
Been digging a few at Lune River recently but it doesn't compare to Agate Ck, will post some pics.

MakkyBrown it is only a month and a half minus 10 days of travelling but still a nice break. Now next year I am hoping for 2 months.  ;D

Know about dreaming of digging agates.  It happens while you are camped out there especially with a few drops of port.  :)
