Hi all,

Just trolling thru and came across this discussion about the blue tiger eye. BTW nice work Brett, some nice shapes. My input is purely from my experience and not researched and I am far from an expert (so be gentle with me.)
I have only seen blue tiger eye once and it was similar to normal tiger eye but blue (...hello). Tiger eye is related to asbestos and has that fine lined pattern like asbestos but with a sheen. Looking at the picture I don't think it looks like the blue tiger eye that I have seen.
As far as serpentine goes I have only seen serpentine with green colouring. It is also very soft and hard to get a good polish on (still shaping on the 1400 wheel). Maybe that is a blackish version of serpentine if it is real soft.
As far as the actual type of stone...I have nothing at this stage.
I have taken the liberty of posting a couple of pics (I think). Top to bottom, l to r, Tiger Eye, Tiger Iron (tends to be more banded), serpentine with stitchtite (purple) from Dundas Tas and serpentine from Kilkivan Qld.  (PS Don't pick too much on the quality of the work)

Regards

Hi mate, nice free-forms.  Mine's a very unusual material.  I've not seen it before and I know what you mean when you say serpentine. I've seen some that's quite similar but it was much sofer than this stuff even.  I've still enough rough for a couple of cabs so I'll see if anything idiosyncratic develops with the remainder of the material.  In the end I suppose the cab is for me, thus the name is largely irrelevant (or George, yes I prefer George to Irrelevant).  The cab sits pride of place in my collection and is not for sale.  If it was, then I'd need to be more diligent ;).  Thanks for your pics and comments mate!!
