Peridot
« on: April 22, 2015, 07:49:41 PM »
Just a silly question, I've just spent the last two days breaking open the last of my peridot bombs from Mt Shadwell, in one of the bombs amongst the peridot, I found to very clear crystals.  Could anybody suggest what they might be.

Hi Tinker,
Most likely one of the feldspars like labradorite or andesine.     beers Ted

Maybe Ted...... but also need to consider/eliminate Chabazite or Calcite. Photos might help get closer to what it might be.

..anorthoclase feldspar. It's found there and at Mt Franklin (a couple of hours drive east). If it has a sheen then it's quite likely. ;D

Thanks for the response guys, I have attached a couple of pictures of the clear crystals, don't know whether they are clear enough to identify.

Last trip to Mt Shadwell I managed to pick up two of the clear crystals a nice size but they had fracture lines that formed squares. I hope that helps. beers

Tinker, from the look of them, it looks like anorthoclase feldspar.
