Larger Sieve
« on: October 29, 2016, 05:47:21 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get a larger sieve?  Larger than the standard 2 set sapphire sieve. The small ones just aren't hacking it for some fossicking like topaz and quartz, one spade of dirt at a time is very frustrating.

I've seen people with larger ones, both wooden and aluminium but I can't find them on ebay or online fossicking stores etc. Found a link through the forum from a few years ago but the website doesn't list them anymore..

I do have a large plastic one like those from a hardware store, but the holes are a too small, I've drilled them out a bit but they still restrict the flow of dirt too much.

Anyone??

Sorry cannot help on finding the large ones that Miners Den used to stock.

You may have to make up some your self.

I would still like a large 1 inch mesh as a 3rd sieve but may have to just rest a large piece of mesh on top of the other 2 sieves.

 :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Hi earthound,

I just use the large black plastic one's that you can buy from bunnings for about $10, they have a 10mm hole which I find is a good all round size!! For me anyway, my theory is if it's small enough to go through my sieve it's not worth keeping anyway!!
They are also cheap to replace if you break or loose one!

You could try Mr Tumbles at Deepwater, NSW....not sure of the phone number tho.... last time I was in there (3 weeks ago) they had a few of the 17"inch sieves left..... or a Bricklayers Supply Store, they sell the large wooden ones for sifting their sand.... we have one here on the Gold Coast.... ;)
